UK NHS selects Re:course for £1m contract to put workforce into Medical Metaverse
Re:course Team

February 18, 2022

The seven-figure contract aims to develop critical communication and decision skills in healthcare professionals faster and at lower cost, using highly engaging training that is experiential yet available on-demand.  What if you could role play a difficult conversation with a patient or a colleague, and get instant feedback from the most experienced expert in the world, all without leaving your house?

From delivering feedback to clinical decision making, this revolutionary new approach to developing traditionally difficult to teach skills leverages the Re:course proprietary suite of technology to simulate role plays between clinicians and virtual humans, in the form of voice-interactive avatars available on any device. This "Medical Metaverse"  has been made possible using extended reality (XR) and the cutting edge in conversational AI.

Funded by NHS England, the SBRI healthcare panel decided to award Re:course the phase two contract following an evaluation earlier in the year, where the platform significantly improved the performance of clinicians in patient encounters.

Professor Wendy Tindale, Chair of the SBRI Panel and Director of Innovation at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Clinical Director at the NIHR Devices for Dignity MIC said:

‘The funding...will help to predict and avoid unplanned admissions and to guide healthcare professionals through complex decisions, enabling advanced and novel ways of training staff and supporting earlier detection and management of health deterioration’ ¹

Dr. Scott Martin, Co-founder and CEO of Re:course AI said:

‘We’re delighted to play a role in the NHS workforce development strategy. It’s exciting that the health service shares our vision that AI-powered healthcare training can unlock the potential of clinicians and enhance patient care.”
